Treatments

Root Canal Therapy

A root canal is a comfortable procedure that removes decay and only the small amount of tooth structure needed to reach the dental pulp (the nerve and blood supply). We then carefully clean and disinfect the canal system and seal it with a biocompatible, nontoxic material.

Many root canal therapy treatments at Harpeth Endodontics in Nashville can be completed in one visit. If there is a significant infection or added complexity, Dr. Poppy Blaseio may recommend two appointments to ensure thorough disinfection and lasting comfort.

Retreatment Root Canal Therapy

Retreatment root canal therapy is recommended when a previously treated tooth becomes reinfected or doesn’t heal as expected. Over time, new decay, a cracked or loose restoration, or hidden canals can allow bacteria back into the tooth.

During retreatment, we remove the old filling material, thoroughly clean and disinfect the canals again, and place fresh filling material to support healing. This approach can help save your natural tooth and relieve discomfort.

Apicoectomy

An apicoectomy is a minor microsurgical procedure used when root canal therapy alone cannot fully resolve an infection. We gently lift the gum near the tooth, remove inflamed or infected tissue, and seal the tip of the root to help prevent future problems.

This endodontic surgery can preserve your natural tooth while restoring comfort and function, allowing you to bite and chew with confidence.

Resorption Repair

Resorption repair addresses damage that occurs when the body begins breaking down a tooth’s internal or external structure. If left untreated, resorption can weaken the tooth and lead to sensitivity or fractures.

Treatment involves removing the affected areas, disinfecting the space, and rebuilding the tooth with durable restorative materials. Our goal is to protect your tooth and keep it healthy for years to come.

Vital Pulp Therapy

Vital pulp therapy is designed to treat an injured or inflamed pulp early, before a full root canal is needed. By preserving healthy tissue, this approach can maintain the tooth’s vitality.

We remove the affected portion of the pulp, disinfect the area, and place a protective bioceramic material to support healing. This may ease sensitivity and keep the tooth alive whenever possible.

Anesthesia Options

Local Anesthesia

Local anesthesia gently numbs a small, specific area so you stay comfortable during treatment. The numbness typically lasts about 3–4 hours and is the same technique used for fillings and crowns. There are no additional fees for local anesthesia.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a safe inhaled gas that helps reduce anxiety and improves comfort during your visit. Its effects wear off as soon as treatment ends. You may feel relaxed or drowsy yet remain responsive and able to drive afterward. It is used with local anesthesia and has a small additional fee.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation uses prescribed medications to ease anxiety before, during, and after care. You will feel drowsy but remain awake and able to respond. A driver is required. It is always combined with local anesthesia and may also be paired with nitrous oxide. Medications are picked up from your pharmacy after your consultation.

Intravenous Sedation

Intravenous (IV) sedation delivers small doses of medication through an IV line to create deep relaxation and reduced awareness of discomfort. A driver is required. A dental anesthesiologist provides IV sedation at Harpeth Endodontics on a scheduled date after your consultation with Dr. Blaseio.

Advanced Technology

CBCT

At Harpeth Endodontics we use Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) to capture a precise 3D view of your teeth and jaws. This imaging is invaluable for diagnosis and treatment planning, helping us tailor care to your unique anatomy. Our in-office unit delivers excellent images with very low radiation exposure.

Ultrasonics

Ultrasonic instruments use high-frequency sound waves to gently and precisely clean and shape the canal system. This technology improves accuracy, aids in bacterial removal, and enhances patient comfort during endodontic treatment.

Advanced Irrigation

Advanced irrigation uses specialized solutions and activation techniques to thoroughly clean and disinfect complex areas around the tooth. This helps remove bacteria from hard-to-reach spaces and supports better healing.
